Celebrating the New Year with Portsmouth NH's First Night Festivities

Few towns know how to celebrate the ringing of the New Year like Portsmouth, NH.  Staying at the Martin Hill Inn puts you within a 10 to 15 minute walk of all the First Night activities for 2013.  Starting in the afternoon of Monday, December 31, 2012, ProPortsmouth has dozens of activities, performances and sights ready for revelers of all ages.

The outdoor activities include ice sculpture carving which begins at 1:00 pm followed by street dancing at 5:00 pm with the finale fireworks at 7:30 pm.  All outdoor activities are free to the public.

The purchase of a First Night Button will gain you access to a wide variety of indoor activities throughout the night.  Here are just a few of the shows to see:  Acheson Gown (singer-songwriter with guitarist), Old Saw (blues, jazz and Americana), T.J. Wheeler & Co (blues), Rock My Soul, Salt River, Wooden Eye, and many more.

Those are just some of the musical acts.  There are also performances of puppets, sword swallowing, mind reading, face painting and story telling.  Or take in a theatrical performance with "A Child's Christmas in Wales" and "The Play's the Thing" showing at various times during the evening.

To keep you energized for the festivities, make a reservation at one of our many fantastic restaurants.  Most are close to the action and some feature special New Year's Eve dinners.

For guests staying at the Martin Hill Inn, we can purchase First Night Buttons at a discount for you if we have your room reserved before December 30th and you tell us you want Buttons.
