Amble through the Pocket Garden Tour of Portsmouth NH

A full weekend of garden tours in Portsmouth, NH happens June 22nd, 23rd and 24th, 2012.  Within walking distance or a short drive from the Martin Hill Inn, a Portsmouth bed and breakfast with its own perennial shade garden, you can tour dozens of private gardens both large and small.

On Friday and Saturday, enjoy the annual Pocket Garden Tour hosted by the South Church of Portsmouth.  The 23rd annual event begins on Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and continues on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  The tour this year will feature 10 gardens in Portsmouth's historic south end.  As you tour the gardens, there will be local musicians and refreshments along the way.  A special tour pamphlet with map will guide you through the neighborhood and discuss the special details and history of each garden.  The walk generally takes three hours and can be done in pieces over the two days if you wish.  Tickets are $20 purchased in advance and $23 on the day of the tour.  Tickets can be reserved through the church by calling 603-436-2762 or purchased online.

On Sunday, the New Castle Village Walk & Garden Tour begins at 1:00 p.m. on the New Castle Common off of Route 1B.  Proceeds will benefit the Pontine Theatre.  The walk includes private gardens throughout this quaint seaside community, some with waterfront views.  Tickets are $15 purchased in advance, $20 on the day of the tour.

With all that walking planned, it is a good idea to start with a great breakfast at the Martin Hill Inn.  See you in June!
